Eight new freemen were formally admitted to The Furniture Makers’ Company during its Common Hall (AGM) held on Thursday, 10th April.
The new freemen include: Nigel Gearing, chairman of Gearing Media Group (publishers of Furniture News); Annik Heal, joining as a partner freeman with longstanding ties to the company as the widow of liveryman Oliver Heal;
Şahika Karagöz, managing director of Erdem Fabrics; Alexander Muradian, principal of Oyster Studio Furniture; Julian Penrose-Smith of Penrose Restoration; designer Taam Sasikan; Lynda Piggott, managing director of DPG Foam Converters; and Agnes Xavier-Phillips, who becomes a partner freeman supporting her husband, liveryman Nigel Phillips. Agnes also currently serves as Master of The Worshipful Livery Company of Wales and is a member of several other livery companies.
All newly admitted freemen pledged their commitment to the Company, signed the official declaration, and were warmly welcomed by Master Brian Ahern.
Şahika Karagöz commented:
"I am truly honoured and proud to have recently been admitted as a Freeman of The Furniture Makers’ Company. I greatly look forward to engaging with this remarkable community and contributing in support of its work."
The event continued with a report from the Master, highlighting achievements from the past livery year, followed by a financial update from Treasurer Alistair Gough, and an address by Master-elect Debbie Johnson, outlining her vision for the 2025–26 term.
